Adoption Frequently Asked Questions

1. Browse through our available dogs and see if there are any dogs that you are interested in.

2. Fill out an application on our website. This will allow us to review all necessary information and give us a picture of what life would like with you for our dog. After we review the application, we will give you a call and discuss potential time to have a meet and greet with our dog.

3. Home check (virtual ok). If you feel that you and our dog is a great match after the meet & greet, you can adopt the dog on the same day. If you are adopting a large dog from us, we would like for you to send us photos of your patio, fence, and living room to ensure that the home environment is safe and aligns with our pup’s needs. If you are adoption a small dog, you do not have to send us picture, just ensure that the dog gets exercise. We can do a virtual home check. Based on the outcome of the home visit, we thoroughly evaluate the applicant’s suitability as a pet owner. Applications may be declined if there are concerns about planned activities like declawing or if the living environment raises red flags.

4. Fill out our adoption contract. Once you have decided to adopt one of our dogs, you can either fill out an adoption contract in person on paper, or we can create a DocuSign of our contract for you to e-sign. Also, if you are planning on adopting one of our dogs after the meet and greet, please bring a collar and leash or harness.

5. Pay the adoption fee. We take cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal. We prefer the use of Zeffy on our adoption fee page, a nonprofit platform for our transactions.

6. Once contract is signed, and adoption fee is paid, we will give you all of the pup’s records, and the microchip ID and information to re-register the microchip under your information

Our commitment to ethical pet adoption guides every decision we make, including turning down applicants with plans that may compromise the well-being of the pet. By adhering to this comprehensive process, we ensure that our rescue pets find loving, suitable homes while promoting responsible and compassionate pet ownership.

Adoption fees help cover the costs of caring for animals until they find their new homes, including medical care, food, and transportation. These fees also ensure that other animals in the rescue receive the necessary medical treatment, even if their expenses exceed potential adoption fees. We are a non-profit organization that relies on the kind donations given to us. We have many expenses to run the rescue, and our goal is to continue saving more animals. In addition to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming our pets, we also organize free (families financially responsible only for antibiotic medication) spay and neutering to communities in need located in Baja, California. Many unwanted pets are born on the streets of Baja, California. We want to prevent more suffering of animals on the streets by helping with the overpopulation and homelessness. We strongly believe in spaying and neutering your pets. Adopt, don’t shop!!

We want to ensure all of our pup go to families that will be a good match for the dog, and vice-versa. We want a safe, healthy, and happy environment for our animals. We offer meet-and-greets for our potential families to bring their pet or children to meet our pup up for adoption. We can also do foster-to-adopt situations to ensure it will be a good match for all. Please contact us at (224)622-1421 or on our website.

We allow our dogs to be adopted around 8-10 weeks old as long as they are healthy to be adopted. We typically wait for our animals to be of age to be spayed/neutered, and make sure they are healthy enough for the surgery. If our pet is too young to be altered, or due to a different circumstance at the time of adoption, we offer free spay and neuter surgeries at two local vet offices. We have a vet in Escondido and a vet in North Park that can do the surgery paid for by the rescue (adopter is only financially responsible for the e-collar required).
